Postponed by a flash flood in Central Park on Sept. 6, the NYMSL Playoffs continued 10 days later with BuzzFeed defeating Wall St. Journal 13-3 in the championship game.

BuzzFeed went undefeated throughout the season, winning all 10 regular-season games and two playoff games for a 12-0 finish. Only BusinessWeek in 2008, with a 14-0 record, had a better season in NYMSL history.

The playoffs started with the semifinals on a day with a rain forecast. After the two semifinal games concluded – BuzzFeed beat Politico BusinessInsider 14-4 and WSJ bested Forbes 12-6 – the championship and consolation games began as thunder rumbled and rain started to sprinkle the Great Lawn. Within minutes, it was a deluge. Both games had to be stopped.

On Sept. 16 in the North Meadow, WSJ took an early 1-0 lead before BuzzFeed came to bat. Their slugger Andrew Brown blasted a three-run homerun in the botton of the first. Steve Cucolo followed with another three-run shot in the second, upping BuzzFeed's lead to 6-1. Brown had another three-run HR in the fourth. Pitcher Dave Stopera went the distance, allowing 10 hits, mostly singles. BuzzFeed's defense was solid, turning two double plays. 

This is BuzzFeed's third title – they also won in 2019 and 2021.
