Wall St. Journal Wins 2026 NYMSL Championship

In a repeat of 2025, reigning NYMSL champs BuzzFeed and this year's No, 1 seed Wall St. Journal met in the championship game on Sept. 19 in Central Park.

Both teams dispatched their opponents in the semifinals – WSJ blowing out first-time playoffs team Associated Press 26-2 and BF coming from behind for a 5-4 walk-off over Forbes.

The stage was set: Would it be three-time champs BuzzFeed or original NYMSL squad and six-time title holder WSJ emerging victorious? BF jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead and then added five more runs in the fourth, opening up a commanding 7-0 advantage. Then WSJ started chipping away with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. BF punched in a run in the sixth and were up 8-5 going into the bottom of the seventh. Three outs separated BF (aka the Sweatys) from their fourth title, which would tie them with High Times for second-most ever.

But the Journal was not to be denied as they piled up hit after hit, tying the score at 8-8. When Emily Bary poked a shot between several BF players, the winning run scooted home. WSJ had their first championship since 2016.

In the consolation game, Forbes polished off AP, 20-3.
